The J&K government on Thursday carried out a major reshuffle in police and bureaucracy by replacing its home secretary Samuel Verghese and CID head K Rajendra. The changes were cleared at a Cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister Omar Abdullah here late on Thursday.

Verghese, financial commissioner (home), was shifted as the chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Tribunal. He has been replaced by BR Sharma who held the post of power secretary.

Rajendra, a 1984 batch IPS officer, who was heading the CID department of the state police, was shifted as additional director general of the Armed Police. He was also given additional charge of ADG (law and order).

IG (Kashmir range) Farooq Ahmed was replaced with SM Sahai who was shifted out of the state six months ago. Ahmed moves as IG (security) replacing Ram Lubhaiya, who has been attached to police headquarters. Lubhaiya and SSP Rafiq-ul-Hasan were attached after a shoe was hurled by a suspended policeman at Abdullah during the Independence Day function.
