It was an informal meeting. It was only our first meeting. We generally discussed the economic, social and political issues, senior leader and member of the group Veerappa Moily told reporters after the meeting which lasted for an hour-and-a half. While stating that it was too early to specify scope of groups funtioning, Moily agreed that preparing for elections would be an area of work. Challenges are in the short- medium- and long-term. We have a long innings to go and we don't discuss only elections, he said.
Moily said all the leaders, including Rahul, gave suggestions and had some bright ideas. By the next meeting, the agenda of the group would be clear, he said. However, he denied that the committee would run counter to the manifesto committee, saying the latter has its own scope.
Besides Rahul, there are 12 other party leaders, including Union ministers, who are members of the new group.
