Thanks, to an initiative between the BMC and the departnment of posts (DoP), citizens will now be able to receive the documents at their doorstep from the hands of the postman.
Currently, an individual can obtain licences (new as well as renewed), birth and death certificates, property and water tax bills only from the 24 BMC ward offices spread across Greater Mumbai. However, after the launch of the new scheme, an individual will need to register for certificates, licences or bills via the Internet and pay the charges online.
The BMC will process the request and dispatch the documents within 24 hours. The courier charges will have to be borne by the individual, informed a senior DoP official.
Elaborating on courier charges, for delivery of packets weighing up to 50 grams within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai), citizens will have to pay Rs 12.
