Holding the BJP and Sangh Parivar responsible for the ?pre-planned, conspiratorial, and cold-blooded? destruction of the Babri Masjid in 1992, Union home minister P Chidambaram today distanced the Congress from the role of the then Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao saying his government had made a ?wrong political judgement? which was ?induced by the lies? of the BJP.

In his reply to the Lok Sabha debate on the Liberhan Commission report, during which he was repeatedly interrupted by the Opposition, Chidambaram claimed L K Advani had access to all information about what kar sevaks were doing. ?The RSS controlled every aspect of the Ayodhya movement and it has no shame or remorse for what happened on December 6, 1992.?

?The government of the day made a wrong political judgement. Narasimha Rao paid the price for this wrong political judgement. The Congress party paid the price for this wrong political judgement. But it was induced by the lies and false promises of the BJP,? he said.

Despite slogan-shouting by Opposition MPs, Chidambaram proceeded with his reply. Opposition members had trooped to the well to demand an apology from Congress MP Beni Prasad Verma for using an unparliamentary word in remarks about former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Winding up his reply, Chidambaram said there were two ideas of India?one represented by the Congress and other secular parties and the other represented by divisive politics of the BJP.

?The two ideas of India clashed in 2004. Forget the Justice Liberhan Commission report… People of India voted for our idea. They rejected your idea in 2004 and again in 2009. Only our idea of India will prevail?the idea of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Subhash Chandra Bose,? he said.

Earlier in the day, Sushma Swaraj, BJP deputy leader in Lok Sabha, took the Sangh line on the demolition of the Babri Masjid, declaring she was ready to face punishment for the act. She called the Liberhan Report baseless and politically motivated.

?I am ready to face punishment for the demolition. If you want to punish me then do so… But don?t resort to ifs and buts.. Don?t dilly-dally… Courts have failed to provide a solution. Talks are the only way out. Let the two sides sit and talk to find a solution. It is possible,? she said.
