The US Central Command (Centcom) announced Saturday (US time) that the United States and its partner forces had launched a new series of large-scale strikes against Islamic State (IS) targets in Syria. These strikes, directed by US President Donald Trump, were part of the country’s Operation Hawkeye Strike, which was launched in December as a punitive measure of the IS group’s attacks on US forces in Syria that month.
An official has since told US news outlet CBS News that that the new strikes involved more than 20 aircraft, as the US and its partner forces are said to have fired more than 90 precision munitions at more than 35 targets. The location of the strikes and their impact have yet to be clarified.
As per the official’s admission to CBS News, this particular strike on ISIS targets included the aircraft like F-15Es, A-10s, AC-130Js, MQ-9s and Jordanian F-16s being used.
US Central Command and Pete Hegseth issue statements
In response to the US Central Command’s announcement of the strikes on X (@CENTCOM), US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth wrote online: “We will never forget, and never relent.”
The US Central Command, on its part, revealed that the “large-scaled” strikes against multiple ISIS targets across Syria were conducted at approximately 12:30 pm ET.
“These strikes are part of Operation Hawkeye Strike, which was launched and announced on Dec. 19, 2025, at the direction of President Trump, in direct response to the deadly ISIS attack on U.S. and Syrian forces in Palmyra, Syria, on Dec. 13, 2025,” the US Central Command wrote on X. “That ambush, carried out by an ISIS terrorist, resulted in the tragic deaths of two American soldiers and one U.S. civilian interpreter.”
Centcom further established that the new series of strikes targeting ISIS was part of their “commitment to root out Islamic terrorism against our warfighters, prevent future attacks, and protect American and partner forces in the region.”
