After prime minister Narendra Modi rolled out the red carpet for young entrepreneurs with Startup India, the commerce ministry has now introduced a Twitter Seva under #mociseva. Using the Twitter platform, young entrepreneurs can raise issues relating to the government, seek to connect with funding agencies and meet like-minded individuals. Initially, all queries raised would be responded to by senior officials from the commerce ministry. While it is a truly technology-forward solution to pressing problems, there are many issues that it needs to handle quickly. That includes being a one-stop shop for all start-up problems. Considering that many rules and regulations differ across states, #mociseva should take that into consideration while providing solutions. Since young businesspersons are short on time, it helps if the platform helps them connect with key officials without having to land up at their offices.
The biggest problem that start-ups face relates to availability of funding. The service could emerge as a platform where budding entrepreneurs can link up with experts on raising funds to run their operations. Considering that a diverse set of entrepreneurs would access this platform, it could well emerge as a place to share experiences. The opportunities that it offers are immense, but, it remains to be seen how it is leveraged. That will be its true test.
