Google is set to launch its next flagship smartphone series, the Pixel 8, on October 4, 2023. The Pixel 8 series is rumoured to be a major upgrade over the previous generation, with a new display, improved camera system, and longer battery life.
In addition to the new hardware, Google is also expected to offer 7 years of Android updates for the Pixel 8 series, which would be the longest software support offered for any Android phone. Here is a rundown of some of the key features and rumours surrounding the Pixel 8 series.
Super Actua display: The Pixel 8 Pro is expected to feature a 6.7-inch LTPO OLED Super Actua display, which is rumoured to be brighter and will let you view the phone under direct sunlight. According to 91mobiles, Pixel 8 Pro will get a 120Hz refresh rate, up to 1,600 nits of HDR brightness and up to 2,400 nits of peak brightness. The Pixel 8 just gets a 6.2-inch “Actua display” of up to 1,400 nits (HDR) and up to 2,000 nits,
7 years of Android updates: According to a specs sheet shared by 91Mobiles and Kamila Wojciechowska, Google will offer” Seven years of OS, security and Feature Drop updates.” It would be the longest software support offered for any Android phone. Google currently offers 5 years of Pixel updates.
Free Pixel Watch 2: Some rumours suggest that Google may offer a free Pixel Watch 2 to customers who pre-order the Pixel 8 series. Google on X wrote “Pre-order Pixel 8 Pro and get a Pixel Watch 2 on us.”
New Google Tensor G3 chipset: The Pixel 8 series is expected to be powered by Google’s new Tensor G3 chipset codenamed zuma. Tensor G3 will feature nine CPU cores — four Cortex-A510s, four Cortex-A715s, and a single Cortex-X3 with increased frequencies. This will make it more powerful and efficient than the previous Tensor chip.
