While almost everyone knows Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan for his iconic Mumbai mansion: Mannat, his properties outside of India are just as impressive. One of the homes he’s most known for owning is a high-end residence in London that has that classic 1920s architecture.
For the Khan family, this place is really more about getting away from the spotlight than showing off. He’s said in the past that London is one of the few places where he can just go for a walk or shop for groceries like anyone else. This was especially helpful when Aryan and Suhana were studying in the UK, as it gave them a normal, quiet place to live that was totally separate from the media frenzy back home.
The heart of Mayfair luxury
The property is situated in the ultra-exclusive district of Mayfair, specifically at 117 Park Lane. According to Architectural Digest, this location is widely considered one of the most prestigious addresses on the planet.
Rather than a sprawling standalone estate, the residence is a massive, high-end apartment within a historic building that features the classic white-stone architecture typical of Central London. The windows overlook the sprawling greenery of Hyde Park, providing a quiet escape right in the middle of the city’s frantic pace.
Economic Times reported that Khan reportedly purchased the home around 2009 for approximately £20 million which was Rs 172 crore at the time. Given the way London’s luxury market has moved over the last several years, real estate experts from Housing.com now value the property significantly higher, with some estimates placing it well over Rs 200 crore.
The interior of the home was designed by Gauri Khan, who is known for blending high-concept modern luxury with a sense of warmth. While the family keeps the inside of the home private, it is known to be a space filled with art and comfortable areas meant for hosting close friends and family away from the public eye.
A sanctuary for the Khan family
For the King of Bollywood the primary appeal of the London home has always been the lifestyle it provides for his children. For years, the apartment served as a home base for Aryan and Suhana Khan while they attended prestigious boarding schools and colleges in the United Kingdom.
Being in Mayfair allowed the children to experience life in a global city while remaining close to a family support system. As noted by NDTV, the home became a place where the family could gather during summer breaks and holidays, far removed from the pressures of Indian superstar-ship.
In various interviews over the years, Shah Rukh Khan has mentioned that London is one of his favorite cities because of the anonymity it provides. He has often shared stories of taking his youngest son, AbRam, for walks in the park or heading out to a local grocery store to pick up snacks – activities that would be impossible for him to do in India without a security detail.
This “frictionless” life is the true luxury of the Park Lane residence. While the address is a symbol of immense wealth, for the Khans, it remains a cherished family retreat where they can simply be themselves.
