Zakir Khan, one of India’s most beloved stand-up comedians, has left fans shocked with a sudden announcement. During his recent ‘Papa Yaar’ tour stop in Hyderabad, Zakir revealed that he will be taking a long ‘much-needed’ break from the stage. A video of the emotional moment has since gone viral, showing the comedian speaking from the heart to a packed room of supporters.
A break until 2030?
While addressing the crowd, Zakir explained that he needs to step away once his current work commitments are finished. He didn’t just mention a few months off; he hinted that the break could last several years, possibly until 2028, 2029, or even 2030.
He told the audience, “It will be a break of three, four, or five years to take care of my health and to sort out a few other things.” He made sure to thank everyone in the room, telling them that they were very close to his heart and that their support meant more to him than they could imagine.

The toll of fame
This decision comes after years of a grueling schedule. Zakir has been very open in the past about how a decade of constant touring has damaged his body. Between the early morning flights, sleepless nights, and eating at odd hours, the lifestyle of a top comedian has clearly caught up with him.
Back in September, he shared with fans that he had been feeling unwell for nearly a year but kept performing because of his love for the stage. Now, it seems he can no longer ignore his doctor’s advice. He admitted that while the choice was hard and delayed for a long time, it is necessary to stop things from getting worse.
Last chance to see him
For those hoping to catch him live, the window is closing fast. Zakir posted on Instagram that all his shows until June 20 will be a “celebration.” He encouraged fans to come out to these remaining dates because he won’t be touring extensively after this.
Once he records his upcoming comedy special, he plans to disappear from the limelight to fully recover and get his health back on track. For a man who has spent years making others laugh, it’s now time for him to take a much-needed break for himself.
