The legal battle around the vast fortune of late industrialist Sunjay Kapur has a new development. Actor Karisma Kapoor’s children, Kiaan Raj and Samaira, recently moved the Delhi High Court to challenge their father’s will that was presented by his third wife, Priya Sachdev. The siblings have accused their stepmother, Priya Sachdev Kapur, of manipulating their father’s alleged will to gain complete control over his wealth, estimated at around Rs 30,000 crore. Amid this legal dispute, what is Karisma Kapoor’s net worth?

Sunjay Kapur, the former chairman of Sona Comstar, an auto component giant, passed away in June 2025 at the age of 53 following a sudden cardiac arrest during a polo match in Windsor, United Kingdom. His unexpected demise has triggered a bitter inheritance battle, putting the spotlight back on one of Bollywood’s most talked-about families.

Divorce settlement between Karisma Kapoor and Sunjay Kapur

Karisma Kapoor and Sunjay Kapur’s marriage was one of the most high-profile weddings of the early 2000s. The two tied the knot in 2003 in a grand Sikh ceremony in Mumbai. However, their relationship soon faced turbulence and the couple separated in 2014 and finalised their divorce in 2016, after a prolonged legal battle.

During the divorce proceedings, Karisma alleged domestic violence and dowry harassment against Sunjay and his family. As part of the settlement, reports indicate that Karisma received Rs 70 crore in alimony. In addition, Sunjay reportedly secured bonds worth Rs 14 crore in the names of their children, Kiaan and Samaira, which had an annual interest payout of Rs 10 lakh.

Karisma also got possession of a luxury Mumbai bungalow gifted by Sunjay’s father, along with the return of her jewellery from the marriage. These settlements, combined with her acting income and endorsements, have significantly contributed to her current wealth.

Karisma Kapoor’s net worth

According to Hindustan Times, Karisma’s personal net worth is estimated at Rs 120 crore. The Kapoor family as a whole, which includes Ranbir Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan, has a combined net worth reportedly nearly Rs 1,000 crore, placing them among India’s wealthiest celebrity dynasties.

At the peak of her acting career in the 1990s, Karisma was one of Bollywood’s highest-paid stars. A News18 report notes that she earned Rs 50–70 lakh per film in that era and charged nearly Rs 1 crore for the blockbuster Hum Saath Saath Hain. In 2012, she was featured at #77 on Forbes India’s Celebrity 100 list and remained on Box Office India’s Top Actresses list for five consecutive years, topping the rankings in 1996, 1997, and 1999.

Coming to advertising, Karisma became one of the most recognisable brand ambassadors of her time. Known as a “Lux girl” in the 1990s, she went on to represent McCain, Kellogg’s, Danone, Garnier Hair Colour, Crescent Lawn, Sukkhi Jewellery, Admix Retail, and several other prominent labels. Reports suggest she continues to charge Rs 50–60 lakh per endorsement.

Sunjay Kapur’s estate and the ongoing legal dispute

Following their divorce, Sunjay Kapur married Priya Sachdev in 2017, his third marriage, and the couple had a son together. After Sunjay’s sudden death, his alleged will reportedly gives full control of his personal estate to Priya Kapur.

Kiaan and Samaira, through their mother, have challenged the validity of the document, claiming it was “forged and manipulated” to deprive them of their rightful share. According to sources close to the development, the siblings have moved the matter to court to be formally recognised as Class I legal heirs under the Hindu Succession Act, which would entitle them to a division of their father’s personal and corporate assets.
