Enrique Iglesias, the Grammy awardee, returned to India for a concert after more than a decade. His first show attracted more than 25,000 fans from India, and he also has a sold-out performance today, October 30, at the MMRDA Grounds in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). A millennial icon, Enrique, the Hero singer, was welcomed by a huge fan following. However, his performance left the fans somewhat disappointed, confirming the popular image he holds of botching up his live performances.
The concert was also reportedly attended by Bollywood actors Malaika Arora, Vidya Balan, Rakul Preet Singh, Rubina Dilaik, and others. With Enrique ticket prices as high as Rs 14,000, the fans could not help but express their disappointment on social media. Based on a plethora of comments on Reddit, the Mumbai subreddit was flooded with poor reviews.
‘Fashionably late, lip synced, poor crowd control’
Everything that could have gone badly went reportedly wrong for Enrique Iglesias’ Mumbai show. Contributing to the ConcertsIndia page on Reddit, a netizen labelled the performance a “forgettable experience.” They listed several points as to why this concert did not make the cut. “Enrique entered fashionably late,” they wrote, and claimed, “Most of the concert was lip syncing or without the mic near him.” In fact, the attendee claimed that “it felt like a karaoke session.”
Echoing the sentiment, another user reported that the concert barely lasted 1.5 hours. To the fans’ surprise, he “didn’t sing half of his hits,” including popular numbers like ‘Somebody’s Me’, ‘Rhythm Divine’, ‘Addicted’ or ‘Finally Found You’. Factoring in his age, a user opined, “He can’t really hit the notes anymore, the vocals were carried by the band, the background vocals and in a lot of cases, literally the audience. He didn’t perform full songs.”
Some attendees even felt that the opening act was better than the main one, as several comments agreed with the lip sync claim. However, several fans found the concert to be “nice”. Another added, “I was amazed to see how happy he was performing, he literally did namaste 10 times, and bowed down to the crowd 5 times. He was also amazed to see so a hard fan following in India.”
The Day 1 reviews of the Enrique Iglesias Mumbai show only made the fans weary of today’s show. There was a sudden surge in Enrique tickets being sold on social media after poor reviews.
