Zareen Khan starrer 1921, which was released on January 12, has earned as much as Rs 13.61 cr till Sunday. As per noted trade analyst and movie critic, Taran Adarsh, 1921 earned Rs 51 lakh last Friday. On Saturday and Sunday, it earned Rs 64 lakh and Rs 88 lakh respectively. While the movie earned Rs 11.58 crore on the first week of its release, it earned Rs 2.03 crore on its second weekend. This Vikram Bhatt film is the fourth installment in the 1920 franchise and the period of the film is set in the year 1921.

This film entertains the audience, but more than that it manages to scare them too by making them go through some really fear-engendering moments. Even as the bar of horror films in Bollywood is set really low, the movie is perfect for all those who enjoyed the three prequels. The first movie in the franchise was released in 2008. The filmmakers have managed to churn out an interesting version even after a decade.

The lead actress of the movie, Zareen Khan was last seen in Aksar 2. She had alleged that the makers of Aksar had mistreated her and included content in the film which she did not approve of. Lead actor Karan Kundra, was last seen in 2017’s Mubarakan, which was directed by Anees Bazmee.

The film that was set in 1921, tells the story of Ayush (Karan) and Rose (Zarine) against a cursed spirit which would lead them to their ultimate fate.Even after facing tough competition from two other films Mukkabaaz and Kaalakaandi, it has managed to do better in terms of attracting the audience to the film theatres. During the first weekend, the movie garnered Rs 6.45 crore but the collection fell steadily starting from the first Monday after its release.

The film 1921, also faced stiff competition from Salman Khan starrer Tiger Zinda Hai, which not only crossed Rs 300 crore mark but also became his highest grossing film in 2017. The Ali Abbas Zafar film, which released on December 22, has garnered Rs 333.58 crore till now.
