Telangana’s Chief Minister-elect Revanth Reddy on Wednesday met Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge in Delhi, a day after he was elected leader of the Congress Legislature Party. He later met Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi and former party chief Rahul Gandhi.

The Congress scripted a stupendous victory in Telangana, nine years after the state was formed by bifurcating Andhra Pradesh, results for which were declared on December 3.

The party bagged 64 seats out of 119, ousting the K Chandrasekhar Rao-led Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government, which was in power for two terms. KCR held office from June 2, 2014, to December 3, 2023.

Congress general secretary, organisation in-charge, KC Vevugopal also met the CM-elect.

In a post on X, he wrote, “Met the the first INC CM-designate of Telangana, the dynamic Sh. Revanth Anumula and congratulated him for the party’s stupendous performance in the assembly elections!”

Reddy, who has been elected from the Kodangal Assembly seat, is slated to take oath as chief minister in Hyderabad on Thursday. The swearing-in ceremony will be held at the LB stadium in Hyderabad on December 7.

He will resign from his Lok Sabha membership later today. He represents the Malkajgiri Lok Sabha constituency in Telangana.

Reddy is credited with steering the Congress to power in Telangana by challenging both the mighty BRS, which had a stranglehold on Telangana politics, and the ambitious BJP, which was striving hard to emerge as the alternative.
