Mohan Charan Majhi was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Odisha in the inaugural BJP government, marking a historic moment for the state. Joining him in the oath-taking ceremony were two Deputy Chief Ministers, Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo and Pravati Parida. Notably, Pravati Parida assumes the distinction of becoming the state's first female Deputy Chief Minister. Additionally, eight ministers and five Ministers of State (Independent Charge) also took their oaths of office today. Odisha Governor Raghubar Das officiated the swearing-in ceremony for the state's inaugural BJP Chief Minister and his deputies.
For the first time, the BJP received a decisive mandate in Odisha, putting an end to the BJD's 24-year reign. The saffron party secured 78 seats in the 147-member Assembly, while the BJD, led by Patnaik, acquired 51 seats. Additionally, the Congress won 14 seats, CPI(M) secured one seat, and Independents claimed three seats.
Apart from Modi, BJP chief JP Nadda, Union Ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Bhupender Yadav, Dharmendra Pradhan, Jual Oram, Ashwini Vaishnaw and others attended the ceremony. Several chief ministers of BJP-ruled states including Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh and Uttarakhand were also present. Odisha's outgoing chief minister Naveen Patnaik also attended the ceremony.

New CM Mohan Majhi’s wife, Priyanka Marndi, said, “I am very happy after getting the surprise announcement. He was always worked for people irrespective of whether he won or lost elections in the past. He has always been fighting for the interest of local people and their issues. Now, he has to manage the state,” she said.
Nathamani Majhi, Mohan’s mother, said, “I am sure he will serve the people in the state well.”

Additionally, PTI reports other probable ministerial contenders, including Babu Singh, Irasis Achaharya, Sanjali Murmu, Satrughan Jena, Nabin Kumar Jain, Saroj Kumar Pradhan, Durga Prasan Nayak, Pradyumna Kumar Nayak, and Pradeep Bal Samanta.
Ahead of the oath-taking ceremony of BJP Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today, the state's capital has been fortified with stringent security measures in anticipation of the arrival of VVIPs, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A dense security cordon has been established, with over 3,500 police officers, comprising 78 platoons of police forces, deployed to ensure the smooth execution of the event at Janata Maidan.
Commencing his political journey as a sarpanch from 1997 to 2000, Majhi ascended to the state assembly for the initial time in 2000, representing Keonjhar. He secured re-election in 2004. Serving as the government deputy chief whip in the BJD-BJP coalition government from 2005 to 2009, he continued his legislative journey. Re-elected as an MLA in 2019, Majhi has demonstrated his enduring popularity. In the recent elections, he maintained his position, triumphing over BJD's Mina Majhi by a margin of 11,577 votes.
The Congress leveled allegations against the Centre, claiming a consistent decrease in Odisha's central funding over recent years. Jairam Ramesh, the party's general secretary, directed questions at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, questioning whether he intends to persist in depriving the state of its rightful allocation. These inquiries come ahead of the swearing-in ceremony of Mohan Charan Majhi as Chief Minister.
"The previous government of the 'one-third' Pradhan Mantri had steadily reduced Odisha's Central funding in recent years. According to CAG reports, central transfers as percentage of revenue receipts have been consistently decreasing from 57 per cent in 2017-18 to 38 per cent in 2021-22," Ramesh said in a post on X.
Mohan Charan Majhi, the Chief Minister-designate of Odisha, had a meeting with Naveen Patnaik, during which he extended an invitation to Patnaik to grace the oath ceremony. Subsequently, Majhi confirmed that Patnaik has accepted the invitation and will indeed be present at the event. "He (Naveen Patnaik) told us that he will attend the oath ceremony later today," Majhi told reporters after meeting the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) supremo.
Assam's Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, has made his way to Bhubaneswar for the inauguration of Mohan Charan Majhi, the incoming Chief Minister of Odisha.
Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath, Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel and Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami have reached Bhubaneswar to attend the oath ceremony of Odisha CM-designate Mohan Charan Majhi. PM Narendra Modi is also in the city to attend the ceremony. The PM is likely to hold a roadshow before the ceremony begins. The swearing-in is scheduled to take place at around 5 pm.
