Mizoram Election Result 2023 HIGHLIGHTS: The counting of votes for the Mizoram Assembly Elections 2023 has ended and the Election Commission of India has declared the final results. The Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) has registered a glorious victory with 27 candidates being declared the winners out of the 40 assembly seats on which the elections were held. The ruling Mizo National Front, on the other hand, has been restricted to 10 seats while the Bharatiya Janata Party bagged 2 and the Congress, 1 seat. The ZPM’s victory on its debut paves the way for the party to form its first government in the state with Lalduhoma, a former IPS officer likely to be appointed as the new Chief Minister. incumbent Chief Minister Zoramthanga, who lost the election from Aizawl East-1 constituency, has tendered his resignation. His deputy Tawnluia too suffered defeat in Tuichang.

Voting for the 40 Assembly seats in the Mizoram Assembly election was held in a single phase on November 7 with a voter turnout of 80.05 per cent. Having previously governed the state for three terms since Mizoram attained statehood in 1987, the incumbent MNF was seeking a second consecutive term in the Mizoram Assembly Elections 2023. In the 2018 Assembly elections, the Mizo National Front secured 26 seats, Congress 5, the BJP 1 seat, and the ZPM bagged eight seats.

The Election Commission of India has declared the results of all 40 Assembly seats in the state. The Zoram People's Movement has won 27 seats, the Mizo National Front has won 10 seats, the Bharatiya Janata Party 2, and the Congress 1. In terms of vote share, the ZPM garnered 37.86% of votes, the MNF 35.1%, Congress 20.8%, and BJP 5.06%.

Following the results of the Mizoram assembly elections, Mizoram CM Zoramthanga tendered his resignation on Monday. Zoram People's Movement registered a major victory in the northeastern state as it dislodged the ruling Mizo National Front.
Zoramthanga submitted his resignation to Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati at Raj Bhavan.
The BJP, which registered a thumping victory in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh on Sunday, has won two seats in Mizoram.
Lalduhoma's Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) won the majority mark in the Mizoram Assembly Election results by winning 27 of 40 seats. The party is leading in two more constituencies. The ruling MNF has managed to win only seven seats so far and is ahead in two.
MNF supremo and Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga gets defeated in Aizawl East I constituency by 2,101 votes. Zoram People’s Movement candidate Lalthansanga won this seat.
A 74-year-old patriarch of the Zoram People's Movement (ZPM), Lalduhoma initially started his career as an officer of the Indian Police Service (IPS) and served in the coastal state of Goa.
He was then transferred to the national capital where he discharged his duties as in-charge of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s security.
After coming out of service, he founded the Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) and made history by entering the Lok Sabha in 1984.
In the last Assembly elections, he was chosen as the Chief Ministerial candidate of the ZNP-led Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) coalition. He was disqualified as a Member of the Legislative Assembly in 2020 for breaching the anti-defection law, but he won the by-election for the Serchhip seat in 2021.

The Zoram People's Movement (ZPM), an alliance of six parties, has surged past the majority mark in early trends. It is now leading on 26 Assembly seats in the 40-member Assembly. The MNF is currently leading on nine seats. The BJP and Congress are leading on two and one, respectively.
As his party appears poised to oust the ruling MNF, ZPM Chief Ministerial candidate Lalduhoma told news agency ANI that he will be meeting the Governor “tomorrow or the day after” and the “swearing-in will be within this month”.

ZPM supremo and Chief Ministerial candidate Lalduhoma said that he is "not surprised" at his party's lead in the Mizoram election results counting. "I am not surprised, this is what I expected... Let the full results come out... The counting process is going on," he told ANI.
The ZPM’s Lalnghinglova Hmar has brought in the party’s second win for the day from the Aizawl West-II constituency. Both the seats in which ZPM’s wins have been declared so far have been against sitting ministers: Hmar has defeated state cabinet minister Lalruatkima while W Chhuanawma defeated incumbent Deputy Chief Minister Tawnluia from Tuichang.
"Everything is peaceful. We have enough deployment, we have a three-tier (security) cordoned and everything is under control," said Aizawl DC Nazuk Kumar earlier today on security arrangements for counting of votes.
ZPM supporters began early celebrations as trends showed the party cruising towards victory in its maiden poll venture.
ZPM's W Chhuanawma has won from the Tuichang assembly constituency by securing 6,988 votes.
ZPM's Lalnghinglova Hmar has won from the Aizawl West-II (16) by securing 10,398 votes.
ZPM founder and probable CM face Lalduhoma is ahead of his nearest rival of the MNF in Serchhip. The ZPM leader, who is a former IPS officer, is leading by over 2,900 votes in his constituency.
The Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) appears to be authoritatively stamping its presence in the state’s major urban centres. It was leading in all 9 Aizawl seats, including from incumbent Chief Minister Zoramthanga’s Aizawl East-1 seat. The ZPM was also leading in two out of the three Lunglei seats. Lunglei is the second-largest town in the state.
As per the latest Election Commission (EC) trends, ZPM’s Lalthansanga has taken a marginal lead, leaving behind Mizoram Chief Minister and MNF leader Zoramthanga.

As per early trends, the BJP is leading in 2 seats in the state while the Congress is ahead in 3. The ZPM is leading in 13 seats and the MNF in 7.
Some exit polls predicted a clean sweep by the Zoram People’s Party (ZPM), but the majority indicated a hung assembly with no party getting a clear majority.
