After the selection of 10 chiefs of public sector bank (PSBs), the government seems to have courted a fresh controversy over the frequent changes of norms in the selection procedures of executive directors (EDs).
The interviews for filling up vacancies of 17 EDs were held in New Delhi on February 16-17 and 34 general managers had appeared for the interview. However this time, the GMs who have already appeared three times for the ED interview in the past, were barred from the interview, despite having more than three years of residual services.
It was for the first time that such a ruling was applied while selecting the prospective general managers for the ED interview.
The GMs that were deprived of the opportunity due to the sudden change in the rules include Punjab National Bank chief general manager Ranjan Dhawan, Bank of Maharashtra general manager BK Piparaiya, Dena Bank general manager TR Chawla, Atul Gautam, CM Khurana & Sheel Sharma from Oriental Bank of Commerce and RK Nair. general manager of Corporation Bank. One of the GMs, who was denied the opportunity told FE, ?We were not informed about anything in writing from the government at the time when the letters of invitation were being issued for appearing in the interview.?
