Standing 36 m above the ground, the Henderson Waves bridge is the highest pedestrian bridge in Singapore. Unveiled in 2008, its shape has lent a jolt of design to the lush green belt in South Singapore. The Henderson Waves bridge is illuminated to effect by LED lighting from 7 pm to 2 am every night. The bridge mimics the shape of a wave, curving and twisting along its entire 274-m length. Its shape allows it to have hidden recesses and shell-like niches, where pedestrians can sit and observe their surroundings. As there’s privacy and room to rest, the bridge is a popular spot on weekends with couples, families with children and joggers. The best way to explore the bridge is the Southern Ridges Walk, a five kilometre hiking trail that takes one through three major parks: Kent Ridge Park, Telok Blangah Hill Park and Mount Faber Park. Aside from being able to observe a variety of tropical flora and fauna, a walk on the Ridges also offers views of the island.
