Previous electronics PLI schemes
Earlier, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) had approved 24 applications for an investment of Rs 12,704 crore under the ECMS, with a projected investment of Rs 41,863 crore and projected production of Rs 2,58,152 crore.
MeitY Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that the government has cleared 46 projects under the electronics component PLI so far. The Minister added that these projects will lead to an investment of over Rs 54,000 crore and will create 51,000 jobs.
Scope of the latest approvals
Vaishnaw stated that among the 22 approved proposals, four companies will commence producing second-generation chips in 2026. These companies are Tata Electronics, CG Electronics, Micron and Kaynes, the Minister added.
The Minister added that the industry should target local sourcing, and there is a need to focus on a local design team within India.
Of the 11 products approved in the latest proposal, 5 are bare components, including PCBs, Capacitors, Connectors, Enclosures, and Li-ion Cells; 3 pertain to sub-assemblies, such as Camera Modules, Display Modules, and Optical Transceivers; and 3 are supply chain items, including aluminium extrusion, Anode Material, and Laminate.
The approved projects are spread across eight states, including Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, and reflect the government’s focus on geographically balanced industrial growth and expansion of electronics manufacturing across the country.
These approvals are expected to spur 33,791 direct employment opportunities.
