Financial Express Online on Thursday organised the third edition of the FE Healthcare Summit. The special address was given by Dr. B Srinivas, Secretary, National Medical Commission (NMC) on the topic ‘Quantity to Quality Journey’.
During the address, Dr. Srinivas highlighted that it is important to maintain the quality of medical education. “Most of the doctors present in United States are of Indian-origin. We have to move to the journey from quantity to quality journey,” he said.
He also revealed that there is a need to focus more on basic research. He also shared that the NMC has started various programmes and courses for the healthcare professional like Mentor-Mentee Programme and Faculty Development Programme.
“We are also giving clinical exposure to medical students…we are easing the initiation of PG institutions. NMC has taken various initiative to improve the quality of medical education,” he said.
He also shared that NMC wants to bring draft regulations to keep everything transparent for the public. He also said that the organisation has recieved certification from the World Federation of Medical Education (WFME) for 10 years.
He also said that criteria for opening new medical colleges have changed and new college can be started with just 50 students per year.
