Dr. Saumitra Bhaduri is a distinguished economist, researcher, and a Professor and Dean of Students Affairs at the Madras School of Economics (MSE) in Chennai, India. Bringing over two decades of rigorous academic and corporate expertise, Dr. Bhaduri is an authoritative analyst of India’s macroeconomic landscape, regularly contributing incisive policy and market insights to leading national financial dailies, including The Financial Express and The Hindu.
At the Madras School of Economics, he plays a central institutional role as a Professor and Dean, mentoring advanced postgraduate and doctoral scholars in quantitative economics. Prior to his full-time academic tenure, he worked with GE Capital, the financial services division of the General Electric Company, holding several core quantitative analysis roles. He founded and headed the GE–MSE Decision Sciences Laboratory, a pioneer collaboration tasked with developing state-of-the-art predictive and research algorithms for global financial workflows.
He earned his Master’s degree in Econometrics from Calcutta University, followed by a Ph.D. in Financial Economics from the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR), Mumbai.
