Spice Telecom has launched a new product offering in GSM space, ?People Phone?, a mobile phone with lifetime prepaid connection at Rs 599, targeting the rural markets.
The new phone would be sold only in Karnataka and Punjab in the next two months, said Navin Kaul, chief executive officer of Spice.
The GSM phone christened S-300 does not have display screen and SMS function but have host of other features including audio interface system in regional language, Kannada in Karnataka,
?Next level of mobile revolution comes from rural areas. The product has been completely developed by Spice after lot of research conducted in rural areas of Karnataka,?? Kaul said.
Other facilities of the phone include talk time of three hours and a 15-day battery backup, reducing the need for frequent recharging.
Subscribers to this phone, weighing 75 gms and with three year warranty, can make outgoing calls to any local number at Re 1 per minute with lifetime validity.
The handset comes with a speaker phone and can save nine speed dials for easy calling. The hot key for value added services can be used to get useful information in Kannada on Mandi rates for vegetables, pulses, beverages, cereals, dry fruits, flowers and oil seeds and entertainment services like mobile radio, jokes and devotional songs.
Kaul also said that Brail language would be availabe on the keypad of this phone in near future.
