Sajjan Kumar, Kapil Sibal, Sandeep Dixit In Cong List

The Congress on Thursday decided to come out of the shadow of 1984 anti-Sikh riots in Delhi by announcing the candidature of Sajjan Kumar from the Outer Delhi constituency.

Mr Kumar along with other Delhi Congress leaders including Jagdish Tytler, the Congress candidate from Sadar seat, were alleged to be involved in the riots which engulfed the Capital post-Indira Gandhi assasination.

Along with Mr Kumar, others whose names were announced from Delhi included AICC spokesman Kapil Sibal from Chandni Chowk and Sandeep Dixit, son of chief minister Shiela Dixit, from East Delhi.

Mr Kumar was elected to the Lok Sabha from Outer Delhi in 1984 but was denied ticket in successive elections following his alleged invovement in the riots.

Mr Kumar would be taking on BJPs Sahib Singh and Mr Dixit would face Lal Bihari Tiwari in East Delhi.

The name of Mr Sibal, Mr Dixit and Mr Kumar figured in the list of nine candidates from Delhi and Uttar Pradesh released by the party on Thursday.

In Uttar Pradesh, the partys central election committee decided to field former minister Ashok Yadav from Sambhal, former petroleum secretary Davi Dayal (Khurja-SC), Vikram Singh (Amroha), Jairaj Maurya (Bijnor-SC), Surendra Goel (Hapur) and Jaichand Tyagi (Baghpat).
