TamilNadu-based state-owned mini-ratna Neyveli Lignite Corporation Ltd (NLCL) is all set to enter Uttar Pradesh with a 2,000-mw thermal power plant in Ghatampur near Kanpur.
The project, company?s first in UP, which awaits state government?s nod before the process of land acquisition can will be a joint venture between NLCL and the UP government and will involve an investment of Rs 20,000 crore.
CMD AR Ansari said land required for the project would be close to 2,000 hectare but it will entail minimum displacement as the project site at Ghatampur has been chosen very carefully.
?Most of the land that we have identified is barren and ravenous in nature. Hence, there will be minimum disturbance to human population or farmland,? he said.
It will take around 4-5 years for commissioning after the official nod. In order to meet its growing power demand, the Mayawati government had invited NLCL to set up a coal-based power project in in 2008. On power sharing, Ansari said though the government wants 100% supply to keep pace with its huge demand for power, NLCL would go by the Gadgil Formula of power allocation.
