Recently, S K Sinha, CEO of ETA Engg Pvt Ltd, took over as president of RAMA (Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Manufacturers Association). As the chief of the organisation, the IIT Kharagpur alumnus, with over 30 years of experience, is all set to introduce more efficient products in the market. ?We have already taken steps in that direction. RAMA played a nodal role in the energy labelling programme launched by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency. All the air-conditioners up to three tonnes will be a part of the energy labelling programme and the star ratings will have to be displayed on the products,? he says. The labelling programme is soon to be notified by the government and after six months it will become mandatory, Sinha adds.
According to him, there are a few areas that require extra attention. High on the priority list are areas like energy conservation in the AC and refrigeration industry, environmental sustainability, consolidation ofthe industry to make it more attractive by having technological advancement, upping benchmarks in domestic products and technology, exports and talent.
Sinha adds that there is a need to upgrade the country?s R&D setup so that India is not largely dependent on imports of equipment and technology.
