Vedanta Resources Group firm Hindustan Zinc on Wednesday reported a 15.21% decline in its net profit to Rs 718.82 crore for the first quarter ended June 30, 2009, compared to Rs 847.81 crore in the same period last year. Total income declined to Rs 1,706.78 crore in the latest quarter against Rs 1,853 crore in the same quarter previous fiscal, it said in a filing to the BSE. As on 30 June 2009, the company had cash and cash equivalents of Rs 10,100 crore. These include Rs 2,200 crore in fixed deposits with banks.

Binani Cement net at Rs 106 cr

Binani Cement Ltd on Wednesday announced that it has reported a growth of 100% in its net profit to Rs 106.7 crore for the first quarter ended June 30, 2009, compared to Rs 53.3 crore in the corresponding quarter last year.

Net sales during the quarter stood at Rs 524.30 crore, up 60.83% over Rs 325.99 crore in Q1 of FY08.

India Cements Q1 net up

Due to buoyant demand and better realization, India Cements Ltd has reported a marginal growth in its net profit for the quarter ended June 30, 2009 to Rs 144.28 crore compared to Rs 142.14 crore during the same period last fiscal. Net sales, however, grew 9.5% to Rs 960.25 crore compared to Rs 876.33 crore. .

Piramal Healthcare profit up

Piramal Healthcare has posted a net profit of Rs 85 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2009, as compared to Rs 68 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2008, a growth of 25%. Total income has increased from Rs 708.4 crore to Rs 821.5 crore.

PepsiCo income at $1.66 bn

PepsiCo Inc posted a bigger-than-expected quarterly profit on Wednesday helped by higher sales of Frito-Lay snacks and improved sales in the international division. The second-quarter net income was $1.66 billion compared to $1.70 billion a year ago.

Yahoo! Q2 profit up 8%

Internet major Yahoo! Has reported an 8% rise in net income to $141 million in the second quarter ended June 30 this year, as the cost cutting measures taken by the company seemed to be paying off.

Spice Comm posts net loss

Private telecom service provider Spice Communications on Wednesday said its net loss stood at Rs 34.91 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2009. The company had reported a net loss of Rs 136.45 crore in the same period last year.

GTL net up 77%

GTL Ltd on Wednesday said its consolidated net profit rose by 77.20% to Rs 58.92 crore for the quarter ended June 2009, compared to Rs 33.25 crore in the same quarter last year.
