Large-scale private sector investment in the renewable energy sector would be possible if there was supportive policies, according to the Confederatiin of Indian Industry (CII). Ramesh Kymal, chairman renewable energy counicl, CII, and managing director, Vestas India, said the possible policy support measures included feed-in tariff for power produced from renewable sources, performance-based incentives in the place of capital incentives, hedging mechansim for protection, and introduction of renewable portfolio standards, including minimum purchase obligation for distribution licencees.
He told a press conference here on Monday that all these issues would be discussed in detail by experts during ?Green Power-2008, a three-day international conference and exhibition on renewable energy technologies from June 11.
The international conference would focus on renewable energy policies at State and national level, and discuss strategies to enhance private sector particiaption in investing in renewable energy sector.
In addition, strengthening the rural grid and greening the waste lands through energy plantation and biofuel cultivation would also be discussed during the conference, he said.
Renewable energy products, technologies and services by the stakeholders will be displayed at the exhibition, organised by Renewable Energy Council of CII-Godrej Green Business Centre.
The exhibition will be inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Minister for Electricity Arcot N Veerasamy.
Planning Commission member (Energy) Kirit Parikh, new and renewable energy,secretary V Subramanian, Tamil Nadu Electricity Board chairman S Machendranathan, PTC India CMD T N Thakur and Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency CMD Mohan Verghese Chunkath would participate, Kymal said.
