In yet another political battle for supremacy in Mumbai region, the fate of Bhiwandi-Nizampur Municipal Corporation will be decided on Friday. The polling for 90 seats took place on May 24 and the counting was initiated by the State Election Commission on Friday at 10 am. Bhiwandi is an important front for the political parties as it is considered as the logistics hub of Maharashtra and is located very close to capital Mumbai. Even though the Bharatiya Janata Party and Shiv Sena are the front runners this year with the maximum number of candidates, the alliance between Samajwadi Party and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has made the battle interesting. The other parties contesting this year are All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), the Republican Party of India (Athawale) and the Konark Vikas Aghadi group.
