A United Airlines flight had a frightening moment while landing at Orlando International Airport on Sunday afternoon (local time). Airport officials and the airline said the plane faced a “mechanical issue”, which almost led to a crash landing. The incident involved United Flight 2323, which was flying from Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport to Orlando.

United Airlines Flight avoids crash landing

The flight took off from Chicago at 8:55 am CST and was scheduled to land in Orlando at 12:35 pm EST, according to United Airlines’ website.  While landing, videos shared on social media show the plane touching down, but something went wrong. The back wheels hit the runway first, and moments later, one of the nose wheels appeared to break off and roll away.

The video captures aircraft getting unbalanced and tilted again after touching the ground. A Fox News report, citing officials, said the aircraft experienced a “mechanical issue” after landing. The issue resulted in the plane blocking the runway, prompting airport staff to intervene while other flights experienced landing delays. Passengers were later taken to the terminal by bus, authorities confirmed, according to Fox 35.

No injuries reported

In a statement, United Airlines said there were 200 passengers and six crew members on board the flight. The airline confirmed that no injuries were reported. United also said that its teams are working to remove the aircraft from the runway so airport operations can return to normal. “United Airlines flight 2323, arriving from Chicago, experienced an issue upon landing. There are no reported injuries. AARF is on the scene as passengers disembark the plane to take buses to the terminal,” Orlando International Airport shared in a statement.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) briefly issued a ground stop at Orlando International Airport (MCO). Later, the FAA updated the situation to a ground delay. It is not yet clear if the weather played a role in the incident. However, conditions in Orlando on Sunday were windy, rainy, and cold. Around 12:30 pm, Orlando International Airport reported wind gusts of 54 mph. At the nearby Orlando Executive Airport, wind gusts reached 56 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
