Former US Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, have expanded their Los Angeles-area real estate portfolio with a high-profile purchase in one of southern California’s most exclusive beachside communities.

The couple recently paid $8.15 million for a mansion in Malibu’s Point Dume neighbourhood, according to the New York Post.

What is known about the property?

The newly acquired property spans approximately 4,000 square feet, with four bedrooms and six bathrooms on nearly three-quarters of an acre.

The home, originally built in 1979, features architectural touches such as high wood-beamed ceilings, a gas fireplace, and an integrated built-in speaker system, amenities that blend classic California indoor-outdoor lifestyle elements with modern convenience, New York Post reported.

Point Dume – a celebrity hotspot

Point Dume, perched on a scenic promontory overlooking the Pacific Ocean, is known for its privacy, sweeping coastal views and proximity to Little Dume Beach, a coveted spot among local surfers.

Access to Little Dume is limited to residents with a special beach key, adding to the neighbourhood’s appeal for well-heeled buyers seeking exclusivity.

The community has long been a magnet for celebrities and affluent figures. Past and present residents include Hollywood stars such as Sean Penn, Julia Roberts and Gerard Butler, as well as tech titans from Silicon Valley, including Marc Andreessen and Sergey Brin.

This blend of entertainment and tech wealth has increasingly defined Point Dume’s real estate market in recent years, according to Lucianne.com

Despite the devastating impact of wildfires across much of Malibu in recent years, Point Dume has remained relatively spared compared with other parts of the region, preserving its appeal to luxury homebuyers and contributing to steady property values, according to News Minimalist.

Harris has been a Los Angeles resident since 2014

Harris and Emhoff have called Los Angeles home since their marriage in 2014, previously residing in a Brentwood property that Emhoff purchased in 2012 before meeting Harris.

The couple’s future plans for the Brentwood residence, whether it will be retained or sold, have not been publicly disclosed.
