“I woke up this morning to a surprise meeting invite on my calendar with my manager and HR. My heart sank immediately because you know what that means. They gave me the usual line about ‘due to restructuring’ and that my position has been eliminated,” the user wrote.
The tech veteran, who has been working since age 15, shared that this was their first experience being let go. Despite receiving positive performance reviews, praise, and leading multiple high-impact projects that saved the company six-figure sums annually, it seemed none of that mattered.
Coping with Unemployment and Planning Ahead
The individual shared their plans for coping with the sudden change, including spending time with family and applying for unemployment benefits.
“I will follow the advice and take a vacation to spend time with my family and friends. As for unemployment benefits, I will apply for them until I find another job opportunity,” they said.
They also expressed determination to re-enter the job market quickly, noting the challenges ahead. “I’m not used to my day being without work, so I want to find another job as soon as possible. I have updated my resume using ResumeKit and will start applying. I feel that the job market is worse than it was, but there is no other solution. I wonder if my years of experience will be in my favour or not.”
