A 23-year-old junior architect has shared a troubling encounter with her team leader at her first job, just two months after graduating. According to her Reddit post, the incident occurred when she was attempting to clarify a detail in a 3D model she had completed correctly. The team leader reportedly interrupted her repeatedly, criticized her ability to “catch up,” and claimed that hiring her had been a mistake.

Fresher Intimidated in Early Career

“He was very rude. He interrupted me every time I spoke. And then he tried to find mistakes in the 3D model I had made but couldn’t find any. Then he asked me when could he check the whole thing. Just as I was going to say tomorrow for a review, he got up and stormed out,” she explained. The young architect admitted to feeling confused and overwhelmed by the encounter, worrying about her job security.

Teammates Confirm Leader’s Difficult Behaviour

Her colleagues reportedly reassured her, saying that their team leader often behaves this way. “He’s a bit weird. But today’s incident weirded us out too,” one teammate mentioned.

Reddit users responded to the post with empathy and advice. One commented, “You are not there to please him, you were shortlisted as a fresher based on qualifications you possess. It’s their job to provide appropriate training to you, they couldn’t expect you to know everything as you are a fresher. Try not to overthink too much about this, you take your time and learn things every day.”

Another user noted, “Are all architecture firms like this? Haven’t heard a single good story about an architecture firm. My friend was also belittled and scolded constantly at her job for nonsensical things. Women specifically seem to be targeted a lot.”

The post has sparked discussion about workplace culture in architecture firms and the challenges fresh graduates face when transitioning from academic to professional environments.
