A 25-year-old healthcare fresher recently shared her experience of obtaining a B1/B2 visa, posting the details on Reddit. The post highlights how, despite being a first-time applicant with a modest income, her visa interview went “super quick and smooth,” providing reassurance to many worried about similar circumstances.
Confidence and Clarity Make the Difference
The applicant said her appointment was scheduled for 8:00 AM and she arrived at 7:40 with her mother. “We were out by 8:30 — super quick and smooth,” she wrote. She described the Visa Officer (VO) as “a kind man, greeted us,” noting that the questions were basic and straightforward.
She added, “My mom did most of the talking, and the questions were basic. He asked me when I’d be free to travel, and I gave a straightforward answer about my exam timeline. He asked how we’d be sponsoring the trip, and I just mentioned it was personal/family funds — very matter-of-fact, no numbers, no over-explaining.”
The applicant emphasized the importance of confidence, writing, “Be casual and confident but not cocky. I also followed it up by asking if he wanted to see any documents.” Surprisingly, no documents were requested, despite her having a meticulously prepared file.
Reddit Advice Doesn’t Always Reflect Reality
She also noticed the calm and clear demeanor of other applicants: “Something I noticed: the people in front of me who were approved were also calm and clear about their reasons. One lady said she wanted to travel for fun and a short visit to an uncle during this trip, another older woman with a translator was visiting her child. Both approved.”
Reflecting on the experience, she wrote, “Seeing that in person made me realize how much Reddit can sometimes make things seem scarier than they really are. Confidence and showing you have reasons to come back genuinely matter. No need to oversell anything. Early morning slots might help too, who knows.”
Concluding her post, she encouraged others stressing about their visa interviews: “To anyone stressing: they really just want to see that you intend to return. I didn’t believe it until I saw it myself. You’ve got this.”
