Google CEO Sundar Pichai made a surprise visit to the commentary box on Day 3 of the fifth and final Test match between India and England at The Oval. As the match reached a thrilling stage, Pichai joined veteran commentator Harsha Bhogle for a short but unforgettable session on air.
Pichai, who is an avid cricket fan, was in the commentary box during a crucial phase of India’s second innings. Interestingly, at the same time, Indian all-rounder Washington Sundar was delivering a powerful knock, making the moment even more special. The coincidence didn’t go unnoticed by fans, as Sundar was speaking while Sundar was batting.
Harsha Bhogle praises Pichai’s simplicity
Harsha Bhogle later shared his thoughts on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), saying, “I don’t think I have been in a commentary box with a corporate leader of this stature. Loves cricket, is extraordinarily down-to-earth. #SundarPichai.”

Despite not being a professional commentator, Pichai impressed listeners with his calm presence and thoughtful remarks. He knew when to pause during the live play and added meaningful insights. Responding to Bhogle’s praise, he joked, “I’m sitting next to the best,” appreciating the experienced broadcaster.
Looking back at the series, Pichai complimented both teams for their spirit and competition. He said, “What a series it’s been. Loved the fight between both teams. At this point, I’d put money on a 2-2.”
India had a strong day at The Oval
Washington Sundar’s fiery fifty from just 39 balls, which included four sixes and four boundaries, brought the Oval crowd to its feet. His aggressive batting helped India reach a strong total of 396, setting a tough target of 374 runs for England.
Several players made valuable contributions with the bat. Yashasvi Jaiswal led the charge with a brilliant 118, while Akash Deep added a crucial 66. Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar chipped in with identical scores of 53. After trailing by 23 runs in the first innings, India bounced back with an impressive total of 396 in their second innings, setting England a challenging target of 374 with over two days left in the match.
