Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the Indian women’s blind cricket team for winning the first-ever Blind Women’s T20 World Cup. He said their achievement is a “shining example of hardwork, teamwork and determination”.

India made history by winning the first edition of the tournament. They beat Nepal by seven wickets in a completely one-sided final held in Colombo on Sunday.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi said, “Congratulations to Indian Blind Women’s Cricket Team for creating history by winning the inaugural Blind Women’s T20 World Cup! More commendable is the fact that they stayed unbeaten in the series”.

Adding to it he mentioned that, “This is indeed a historic sporting achievement, a shining example of hardwork, team work and determination. Each player is a champion! My best wishes to the team for their future endeavours. This feat will inspire generations to come”.

Jay Shah also applauds the team

ICC chairman Jay Shah also praised the team, calling their effort something that “redefines the limits of ability”.

He wrote on X, “Congratulations to the @blind_cricket Indian team for winning the first-ever Blind Women’s T20 World Cup, an event that re-defines the limits of ‘ability’ and inspires differently abled athletes in India and around the world.”

In the final, India chose to bowl first and their bowlers delivered an excellent performance. They kept Nepal to just 114/5 in 20 overs by bowling tight and disciplined lines.

India’s strong batting display seals the win

While chasing, India scored 100 runs within the first 10 overs, making the win almost certain.

Opener Phula Saren played the key role, scoring 44 off 27 balls with four boundaries. Her knock helped India finish the chase in the 13th over and secure the title. Karuna K also played a strong innings, scoring 42 off 27 balls. Saren was named Player of the Match for her brilliant batting.

After the win, India’s captain Deepika TC said the team is extremely proud of their achievement and that they worked very hard for it.

“We are very proud, and it is a huge win. Our entire team worked very hard. It is a very strong team and other teams are afraid of playing with us. We are even ready to play with the men’s team,” Deepika TC said.

India dominated the entire tournament and remained unbeaten. They began with a solid win against Sri Lanka. They then beat Australia by 57 runs after defending a big total of 293.

India also defeated Pakistan easily, chasing the 136-run target in just 10.2 overs. In the semi-final, they crushed Australia by nine wickets and went on to lift the trophy with a comfortable victory over Nepal in the final.
