KKR vs SRH IPL 2024 Final: The sudden showers that disrupted the Kolkata Knight Riders’ final practice session at MA Chidambaram Stadium on Saturday brought back the memories of 3-day-long grand finale in the last season of IPL. That match, which was ultimately won by Chennai Super Kings, was played for three days at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. Amid the rain threats looming over this season’s grand finale at Chepauk, here’s a look at all the possible scenarios in case of rainout, clause of reserve day and when the point table rankings come into play:

Complete washout: We saw as many as three rainouts in this season of Indian Premier League. The first one was the GT vs KKR match at Motera, the second one was SRH vs GT match at Uppal and the last league match between Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders at Barsapara. So, rainout can’t be completely ruled out. Though there is no immediate forecast of rain in Chennai for Sunday, the impact of Cyclone Remal may change the game. In case, we see a heavy downpour, the match can be abandoned due to poor weather.

Reserve Day: In case the match is rained out on Sunday, when the final game is actually scheduled, the IPL rule book says that in such a scenario, the match will be played the next day. hence, May 27 has been marked as ‘Reserve Day.’ So, in case, there is total washout, the full match of 20 overs a side will be played on May 27.

Minor interruption: There are chances of some light showers on Sunday, but this won’t change the fate of the game. For example, the knockout match between RCB and Chennai Super Kings was disrupted for 40 minutes. But that didn’t impact the duration of the play. It was a full 20 overs a side match at Chinnaswamy. But in case the situation worsens then Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) may also be used. For example, if the rain disrupts play in the second innings, then the DLS can come into effect.

Points table rankings: Though this has never happened in the history of IPL that the match is disrupted on the ‘Reserve Day’ as well. In case this happens then the IPL points table rankings will come into play. The team with more points will be declared winner. In this case, Kolkata Knight Riders will be announced the winner of IPL 2024 should there be a rainout on ‘Reserve Day’ as well.
