Aiming to ease public trouble after demonetisation, public sector petrol companies have decided to dispense cash at petrol pumps from POS machines. The Public sector oil companies Hindustan Petroleum, Bharat Petroleum, and India Oil Corporation Ltd, in association with State Bank of India have decided to start dispensation of cash at select petrol pumps. The facility will be available at petrol pumps where SBI POS machines are already installed. A maximum of Rs 2000 will be allowed per person per day. The decision was taken after a meeting between senior officials of IOCL, BPCL, and HPCL and SBI Chairperson Arundhati Bhattacharya. POS machines are the machines used at pumps for cashless transactions. Meanwhile, the date of acceptance of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes has also been extended to November 24th.
“Cash Dispensation to be started from select PetrolPumps of IOCL/BPCL/HPCL,” Hindustan Petroleum said in a Tweet.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 8 declared Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes as illegal tenders. Since then, long queues have been seen outside banks and ATMs as more and more people are coming to exchange/deposit their money at banks. Meanwhile, Government has reduced the withdrawal limit to from Rs 4,500 to Rs 2,000.
