The global markets are trading on a lower note. The GIFT Nifty is trading 30 points, or 0.11%, lower at 25,936. Here are domestic as well as key global cues to watch before the market opens that include crude oil prices, FII and DII data, business groups that most affect, sectoral performance, etc.
Earlier on Monday, the NSE Nifty 50 closed the session 100 points or 0.38% lower at 25,942, while the BSE Sensex fell 346 points or 0.41% to close at 84,695.
Key global and domestic cues to know on December 30, 2025
Asian Markets
The Asian markets opened Tuesday morning on a lower note as tech stocks fell on Wall Street. Japan’s Nikkei 225 was down 0.49%, while the broad-based Topix was 0.36% lower. South Korea’s Kospi lost 0.41%, and the small-cap Kosdaq declined 0.36%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index futures were at 25,603, marginally lower than the HSI’s last close of 25,635.23.
US markets
The US benchmarks declined in Monday’s trade as AI stocks came under pressure. The S&P 500 dropped 0.35% and closed at 6,905.74, while the Nasdaq Composite shed 0.50% and settled at 23,474.35. The Dow Jones Industrial Average pulled back by 249.04 points, or 0.51%, and ended at 48,461.93.
Silver sees worst 1-day loss since February, 2021
Globally silver futures clocked their worst losses in February 2021. During the session in US, the silver prices drppped as much as 15% from the highs to lows. This in fact, could be seen as one of the biggest intra-day movement in silver. The 16.85% drop in silver prices in August 2020 is so far the maximum silver futires have dropped in a single session. Silver futures ended the US session with over 8% losses after topping $80 an ounce for the first time ever in overnight trading. Even in Indian markets, Silver fell 8% after hitting a fresh lifetime high of Rs 2,32,663 per kilogram. The futures contracts with May and July expiries also declined, dropping 9% and 10%, respectively.
US dollar
The US Dollar Index (DXY), which measures the dollar’s value against a basket of six foreign currencies, was trading 0.04% higher at 98.04 on Tuesday morning. The index evaluates the strength or weakness of the US dollar in comparison to major currencies. The basket contains currencies such as the British Pound, Euro, Swedish Krona, Japanese Yen, Swiss Franc, etc. The rupee depreciated 0.13% to close at 89.98 to the dollar on December 29.
Crude oil
The crude oil prices traded on a lower note on Tuesday morning. WTI crude prices were trading at $57.84, down 0.40%, while Brent crude prices were trading at $61.25, a fall of 0.39%.
FII, DII data
Foreign institutional investors (FII) were the net sellers of shares worth Rs 2,759.89 crore. On the other hand, the Domestic institutional investors (DII) were the net buyers of shares worth Rs 2,643.85 crore on December 29, 2025, according to the provisional data available on the NSE.
Gold rate today
The rate for 24-carat gold today is Rs 1,35,010 per 10 grams. The price of gold has fallen by 3.6% from yesterday. The 24 kt gold rate today in Delhi is Rs 1,34,770 per 10 grams. The 18-carat gold price today in India is Rs 1,01,257.5.
Top sectors in Monday’s trade
The Tea/Coffee sector’s stocks rose the most in Monday’s trade, rising 1.58% in the market capitalisation. However, Glass stocks fell the most, declining 2.5%. It was followed by the electronics sector. Waste management stocks also fell in the trade.
