The Godrej Group was established by Ardeshir Godrej, who from being a lock-maker pursued his entrepreneurial dream of establishing a business that is now one of the leading conglomerates. The Godrej Group is now headed by Adi Godrej, whose wife Parmeshwar Godrej was always the center of media attention. She started her career as an air hostess before she joined one of the most influential business families.
Parmeshwar Godrej was the daughter of an army officer. She was born on July 16, 1945, and went to Yadavindra Public School in Patiala. She worked as an Air India hostess before she wed Adi Godrej. She was 17 when they first met, and he was 21. They got married in 1965. Tanya Dubash, Nisa Godrej, and Pirojsha Adi Godrej were their three children together.
She was a prominent socialite and philanthropist in India who concentrated her substantial influence on the medical and scientific disciplines. She co-founded the Heroes Project with Hollywood actor Richard Gere in 2004 with substantial backing from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Clinton Global Initiative. She was one of the first advocates for AIDS and HIV awareness in India and also served on the boards of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Gere Foundation.
At the request of her close friend Feroz Khan, who served as the actor, director, and producer of the 1975 movie Dharmatma, Godrej created the costumes for Hema Malini, as per reports. She was a prominent socialite and philanthropist in India who concentrated her substantial influence on the medical and scientific disciplines.
Parmeshwar made the headlines in 2012, when she hosted American talk show host, Oprah Winfrey’s grand welcome soiree in Mumbai, at her villa in suburban Juhu. The event was a star-studded affair with famous industrialists and people from Bollywood. A socialite, in its true sense, Parmeshwar’s social circle was massive and included some of the most influential figures and she had been ruling for over a decade since she became a part of the Godrej family.
Parmeshwar was also a close friend of Imran Khan, the former cricketer turned politician, who was the former Prime Minister of Pakistan. This high-profile and lasting friendship with Parmeshwar Godrej often caught media attention. The Godrej-Khan friendship began around the 1970-80s when all-rounder Imran would visit India as a cricket star and Parmeshwar would invite elite personalities from across the world to parties. Imran Khan was often spotted at parties hosted by her, and she was his way into making a place in the elite social circles in India.
Parmeshwar was suffering from chronic lung disease and passed away at the age of 70 in a Mumbai hospital.
