In a bid to make itself more responsive as compared to other browsers like Google’s Chrome, Mozilla Firefox has rolled out a new version of Firefox for desktop. Firefox 48, a new multi-process Firefox for desktop, is less susceptible to ‘freezing’ and more ‘responsive to input’, says Nick Nguyen, vice-president, Firefox products. However, the new browser retains all of its features liked by users. Nick says Firefox 48 (also known as Electrolysis or e10s) aims to enable multi-process Firefox for release users. “e10s promises to offer a major improvement to your browsing experience by separating Web content and Firefox UI processes. This means when a web page is consuming a large part of your computer’s processing power, your tabs, buttons and menus won’t lock up,” Nick says in a blogpost on mozilla.org.
To check if e10 is active on your Firebox browser, you can type “about:support” into the URL bar. “If e10s is active, you’ll see “1/1 (Enabled by default)” under the Multi-process Windows line item,” says Nick. The updated Firefox has also incorporated some improvements in browser design to make search more easier than earlier. Firefox 48 gives up more suggestions if you type a word in the URL bar. Not only this, the suggestions appear across the screen and shows icons depicting if website is already in your bookmarks or open tabs.

Most importantly, Nick says, Firefox 48 has security improvements to enhance download protection in the browser. Mozilla has also introduced new features in Firefox for android. In the updated android-version of the browser, reading list has been merged with the bookmarks. Moreover, now if you a playing a video or an audio on Firefox for android, the file will automatically pause if you receive a call.
