OpenAI is rolling out its deep research tool to a wider audience. Initially available only to Pro users at $200 per month, the feature is now accessible to Plus, Team, Edu, and Enterprise subscribers.
“Deep research is now rolling out to all ChatGPT Plus, Team, Edu, and Enterprise users,” the company announced via its official account on social media platform X.
As announced earlier this month, Deep Research helps users create detailed and well-thought-out reports on complex subjects in less time. Much like Grok’s DeepSearch which takes a few seconds to fetch a thorough result, OpenAI’s Deep Research also lets users detailed reports upon entering a query and selecting the Deep Research icon before submission. The AI then processes the request and compiles a comprehensive response with images and citations now.
OpenAI highlighted that generating a report can take anywhere from five to 30 minutes, depending on the complexity of the topic. As part of the rollout, Plus users will receive 10 Deep Research queries per month, included in their standard subscription. Meanwhile, Pro users, who previously had a cap of 100 queries per month, will now enjoy an increased limit of 120.
In addition to wider availability, OpenAI has also introduced improvements to how Deep Research delivers results. One significant upgrade is the inclusion of images alongside citations, providing users with more informed insights. Furthermore, the AI has been trained to better understand various file types, which means better document analysis. This update is particularly beneficial for users who rely on the tool for academic research, business reports, or technical analyses.
Deep research has unlocked significant new capabilities, but it’s still early and has limitations. OpenAI warns that the AI tool can hallucinate facts or make incorrect inferences and may even struggle with distinguishing correct information from rumours.
