OnePlus is all set to upgrade its performance-driven ‘R-series’ midrange smartphone lineup with the launch of the OnePlus 15R in India. Launching on December 17, the new flagship killer will debut alongside the OnePlus Pad Go 2 and promises a major leap in hardware, including the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and the largest battery ever integrated into a OnePlus smartphone.

The company has confirmed that the OnePlus 15R will be powered by Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset, which is a major generational upgrade over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 on the OnePlus 13R. The chip, designed for superior speed and efficiency, is expected to be paired with LPDDR5X Ultra RAM and UFS 4.1 storage, promising smooth multitasking and rapid app loading times.

However, the processor isn’t the only major upgrade coming to the OnePlus 15R. To ensure that this smartphone is a better choice for most consumers seeking an all-rounder phone, OnePlus has made quality upgrades elsewhere.

OnePlus 15R specifications and features at a glance

A standout feature is the OnePlus 15R’s enormous 7,400mAh battery, which surpasses even the battery unit found in the standard OnePlus 15. Using a new Silicon Nanostack technology, the company claims the battery is built for longevity, retaining at least 80% of its capacity after four years of use. It is also expected to support 80W fast wired charging. Note that there’s no support for wireless charging.

On the display front, the OnePlus 15R is expected to feature a high-end 165Hz 1.5K AMOLED panel, matching the panel used on the premium OnePlus 15. The screen boasts an impressive peak brightness of 1,800 nits for excellent outdoor visibility, while also supporting an ultra-dim 1-nit setting for low-light comfort. The display also carries TÜV Rheinland Intelligent Eye Care 5.0 certification.

For photography, the device is tipped to utilise a 50MP Sony IMX906 primary sensor with Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS), backed by an 8MP ultrawide lens. The front of the phone will likely house a 32MP camera for selfies and video calls. This camera setup may not be ideal for photography enthusiasts, but it should be more than enough for casual camera needs.

Furthermore, the 15R is expected to retain the customisable Plus key featured on recent OnePlus models and may carry premium durability ratings, with IP68 and possibly IP69 protection suggested by recent certifications.

OnePlus 15R expected India price

In terms of pricing, the OnePlus 15R is rumoured to fall within the price range of Rs 45,000 to Rs 50,000 in the Indian market, reflecting a price hike for the upgrades in performance and battery departments over its predecessor. Following the launch event on December 17, the OnePlus 15R will be available for purchase through Amazon, the official OnePlus online store, and authorised retail partners.
