Apple has rolled out new patches for iOS 18.6.2, iPadOS 18.6.2, and macOS Sequoia 15.6.1, marking what could be among the final minor software revisions ahead of the upcoming iOS 26 launch. Apple urges all users to install this update, as it resolves a critical security flaw that was actively leveraged in a recent cyber attack.

According to the company, the patch fixes a major security loophole that appears to have been used in what it called a “highly advanced attack” aimed at select users. iOS 18.6.2 has been rolled out barely three weeks after iOS 18.6, which addressed as many as 29 security flaws.

“Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been exploited in an extremely sophisticated attack against specific targeted individuals,” the iPhone maker wrote on its support page.

In its official support note, Apple detailed a security weakness patched in the newest rollout. The issue stemmed from harmful image files that, when opened, could trigger memory corruption. The iOS 18.6.2 update has been released for iPhone XS and later versions, and Apple strongly advises all compatible users to update their devices for protection.

Apple revealed that the flaw was identified during internal testing and has been resolved through enhanced bounds validation.

The patched software updates include:

iOS 18.6.2 and iPadOS 18.6.2 – Available for iPhone XS and newer models, iPad Pro 13-inch, iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation and later), iPad Pro 11-inch (1st generation and newer), iPad Air (3rd generation and newer), iPad 7th generation and above, and iPad mini 5th generation and later.

iPadOS 17.7.10 – Released for iPad Pro 12.9-inch (2nd generation), iPad Pro 10.5-inch, and iPad 6th generation.

macOS Ventura 13.7.8 – For devices running macOS Ventura.

macOS Sonoma 14.7.8 – For Macs with macOS Sonoma.

macOS Sequoia 15.6.1 – For systems operating on macOS Sequoia.
