RRP Electronics, an OSAT semiconductor company, has launched India’s first indigenous fingerprint sensor modules, named Samved. These modules offer high-resolution, low-power fingerprint intelligence for secure digital identity verification. India is heavily dependent on imports for fingerprint sensor modules.

Apoorva Raut, CTO of RRP Electronics, stated, “This is a significant advancement in biometric hardware manufacturing in India, contributing to the development of indigenous intellectual property (IP) and manufacturing capabilities. These products are entirely manufactured in India, allowing for rapid customisation and deployment for our customers.”

The Samved fingerprint module features Edge-AI intelligence, enabling faster and more secure biometric authentication. Key applications for this technology include digital identity verification, e-governance, Internet of Things (IoT) and Edge devices, enterprise and industrial access control, as well as smart locks and digital doors.

Scaling the Value Chain

Rajendra Chodankar, founder and chairman of RRP Electronics, mentioned that their OSAT facility was established in record time, starting chip production in April 2025 and moving on to product development. He added that the next goal is to advance to wafer-level packaging. However, he acknowledged that the challenge lies in product design, advancing within the semiconductor value chain, and building a strong design team.

RRP Electronics has partnered with Horng.com, a Taiwanese company, for product manufacturing. In addition to fingerprint sensors, RRP plans to expand into the SIM card, Mastercard, and Visa card segments, moving towards semiconductor self-reliance through domestic manufacturing, according to Chodankar.

RRP has introduced two modules: the RRP14105 and the RRP18125. The RRP14105 features a larger sensing area and enhanced imaging for high-security systems, targeting government and enterprise use. In contrast, the RRP18125 has a compact sensor footprint designed for slim, space-constrained devices.

Edge-AI Intelligence

The Edge-AI capability allows fingerprint sensing, analysis, and decision-making to occur directly within the module, eliminating the need to send raw biometric data to external systems or the cloud. This design ensures compliance with security and identity regulations, resulting in faster response times with instant authentication and no dependency on network connectivity or latency.
