A major software update from cybersecurity company Crowdstrike has triggered a global outage, causing widespread disruption for Windows users, businesses, and even airports.

The issue, linked to Crowdstrike’s Falcon sensor, has resulted in Windows machines experiencing blue screen errors and getting stuck in a recovery loop. Crowdstrike has acknowledged the problem and assured users their engineers are working on a fix.

However, the impact is already being felt worldwide.  Airports like Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport have been severely affected, with check-in systems for IndiGo, Akasa, and SpiceJet airlines going down. Airlines have resorted to manual check-in processes, urging passengers to arrive early.

The outage extends beyond travel. Businesses reliant on Microsoft 365 services like PowerBI, Teams, and the admin center are also facing disruptions. Microsoft, acknowledging the issue, is rerouting traffic to mitigate the impact and reports partial recovery for some services like Defender and OneDrive.

The full extent of the damage remains unclear, but the incident highlights the critical role security software plays in modern infrastructure and the potential consequences of updates gone wrong.
