X (previously Twitter) owner Elon Musk says that soon your blocked accounts will not be able to interact with your posts. Yes, another day, another update announcement by Musk! However, there’s a catch! This new feature will  let the ‘blocked contacts’ see your public posts.

As reported by The Verge, Musk explained that X will soon “make your public posts visible to accounts you’ve blocked. But they can’t interact with your posts.” Here’s how it’s gonna change your tweeting experience.

What’s new

Blocking contacts usually keeps us hidden from accounts we don’t want to interact with. However, we often face interactions from unknown contacts. So, in order to remove this, Musk has come up with this new X update. The new update will not allow blocked accounts to comment in your posts. In spite of the boundary, your blocked contacts can see your public posts.

So, how is this going to work? As of now the  current ‘block’ feature of X shows a ‘You’re blocked’ warning. In addition to this the block feature can block others from seeing your followers, media, following list and even the replies. But the new update can block users from visiting your profile or initiate any form of engagement. Earlier, people could view your profile by making new accounts. But now it is expected that the new update can prevent these also.

Other updates

This is not the first time that Musk has been updating X (earlier Twitter). Last year Musk shared his strong resentment  about ‘his dislike of the block button’. He had further explained that the feature “makes no sense”. He also highlighted that the button needs to be ‘deprecated in favor of a stronger form of mute.’ In addition to this  he also threatened users. He said that he will not allow users to block people on the platform completely, except for direct messages.

In other news, the verified ‘blue tick’ of X faced allegations of being ‘deceptive’ for users. The EU (European Union) explained that X’s verification system allows users to pay for verification. According to the regulator, this can be exploited by malicious actors to deceive others. The ‘blue tick’ of X got criticized by the EU competition chief Margrethe Vestager for employing “dark patterns”. She also said that the ‘blue tick’ can mislead users. She believes that the verification  lacks an adequate ad repository, and restricts data access for researchers.
