As the advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) continues , Google brings another AI powered update for its Gemini AI. Notably, Gemini AI is Google’s in-house AI model. The new update allows Gemini AI to read any PDFs. Here’s a detailed look at what the update means to you.
Ask AI to read your Pdfs
According to 9to5Google, ‘Files’ by Google will integrate with Gemini’s upcoming “Ask about this PDF” feature. Gemini the Google AI assistant has brought a new update. Now it can detect when a PDF file is opened on your device’s screen. In addition to this you can ask questions about the content of the PDF. Moreover, this feature allows you to get quick answers without the need to scroll through multiple pages of any PDFs.
So, how to use this feature? Here’s how you can use Gemini AI to read and explain your PDFs.
- Start by asking Gemini about a PDF file in Files by Google.
- Now say “Hey Google”. You can also press and hold the power button to activate the Gemini AI.
- Next you need to tap “Ask about this PDF” option
- Now ask a question about the PDF and Gemini AI will explain the brief about it
Please note that as of now this feature will be available on Android 15+ if you have a Gemini Advanced subscription. The “Ask about this PDF” was initially teased at the I/O 2024 Google event in May. Apart from this the Gemini overlay and ‘Ask about this video,’ was also introduced.
Other updates
In other news, Gemini Advanced users can now upload their code repository. This feature is an updated version of ‘uploading code files’ which was introduced by Google in September. However, at that time it was limited to up to only 1 folder per conversation. But now you can upload a maximum of 1,000 files. Also the maximum folder size should be 100MB.
This feature is designed to give you comprehensive code assistance. This adds on to the capability of Gemini to understand ‘the full context of your project.’ So how to use this? You just need to select “Code folder”. You can find this option in the ‘plus’ menu in the Ask Gemini field on the web. After that Gemini will automatically read and even edit your codes.
