Following a private family arrangement, HCL Founder Shiv Nadar’s daughter, Roshni Nadar Malhotra, has ascended to the position of India’s third-richest billionaire, with a net worth of nearly $36 billion. She inherited 47% of her father’s stake in HCL Corporation and Vama Sundari Investments, making her the richest woman in India.

This transfer of stake formalised the Nadar family’s commitment to retaining leadership within HCL. An exchange filing confirmed, “Gift deeds have been executed pursuant to a private family arrangement intended to streamline succession.” The move is intended to ensure continuity of ownership and control, enhancing the company’s stability.

Roshni Nadar’s role and growing net worth

Roshni Nadar took over as Chairperson of HCL Technologies in July 2020. HCL, valued at $12 billion, is strengthening its global presence, and Roshni’s net worth has surged to $35.9 billion.

The only child of Shiv and Kiran Nadar, Roshni completed her schooling in Delhi and earned her MBA from the Kellogg School of Management. Beyond her corporate role, she serves as a global board director at The Nature Conservancy (TNC) and is an independent director at HDFC Asset Management Company. Her husband, Shikhar Malhotra, is Vice Chairman of HCL Healthcare.

Prior to this arrangement, Shiv Nadar held a dominant 51% ownership in both HCL Corporation and Vama Delhi. The stock exchange confirmed the stake transfer under Regulation 30A of the SEBI LODR, pertaining to Gift Deeds, which was executed by Shiv Nadar on March 6, 2025. Post-transfer, Shiv Nadar and Roshni Nadar hold 736 and 696 shares, respectively.

The 35% increase in Roshni’s stake made her the majority shareholder of Vama Delhi and HCL Corporation, granting her additional voting rights. This move reinforces her role as the next in line to lead the Nadar family legacy.
