Ahead of this weekend’s British Grand Prix at Silverstone, Formula 1 has unveiled Glenmorangie as its Official Whisky. The partnership is part of a decade-long alliance between Formula 1 and luxury conglomerate LVMH, Glenmorangie’s parent company.

The news was revealed through a short film featuring veteran Hollywood actor Harrison Ford, who stars in a lighthearted campaign titled Once Upon a Time in Scotland. Set against the scenic backdrop of Andross Castle in Scotland, the film is directed by Australian filmmaker Joel Edgerton. In it, Ford, portraying himself, introduces the whisky with characteristic dry humour, summing up the partnership with a single word – “Nice.”

This collaboration brings together two brands with highly acclaimed legacies and a shared commitment to excellence. The move coincides with Brad Pitt’s film, F1.

All about Formula 1’s official whisky – The Glenmorangie

The Glenmorangie Original 12 Year Old, now the brand’s flagship expression, is produced in copper pot stills, the tallest of their kind in Scotland. Standing at 16.86 feet, these stills contribute to the whisky’s signature smooth and delicate character. Following distillation, the spirit matures for 12 years in primarily first and second-fill American white oak bourbon barrels, lending it distinct notes of vanilla, honey, and citrus.

Tasting notes

The single malt opens with bright aromas of citrus, vanilla, and honey. On the palate, it offers a balanced blend of lemon, vanilla custard, and floral undertones. The finish is soft yet persistent, leaving hints of almond, coconut, and maple.

Alcohol content and pricing

Glenmorangie Original 12 Year Old has an alcohol by volume (ABV) of 40%, consistent with industry norms for single malts. Pricing varies by location, with a 1-litre bottle retailing at Rs 7,090 in Delhi Duty-Free, Rs 6,800 in Bengaluru, and Rs 7,450 in Thiruvananthapuram.

Global recognition for the whisky

Reimagined in 2024, the single malt has been widely praised and was awarded a gold medal at the prestigious World Whiskies Awards, adding to its international acclaim.

Commenting on the new collaboration, Emily Prazer, Chief Commercial Officer at Formula 1, said, “As part of our 10-year deal with LVMH, we are delighted to welcome Glenmorangie from the Moët Hennessy Maisons collection as the Official Whisky of Formula 1. We have both been mastering our craft for many years, and we share a commitment to refinement and perfection delivered over time.”

“With our mutual respect for tradition, it is absolutely fitting that we are launching our collaboration at the Formula 1 British Grand Prix at Silverstone – the circuit that hosted our first race 75 years ago – and from there around the world for many years to come.”
