Henley & Partners’ latest report: India’s global economic presence continues to strengthen, with the nation’s entrepreneurs playing a key role in its rise. As the third-largest economy by 2030, India’s growing number of billionaires is a testament to this progress. In January 2024, the country reached a historic milestone, boasting 271 billionaires, including 84 newcomers, making it third in the world for the highest number of billionaires.
According to Henley & Partners’ latest report, Mumbai and Delhi secured positions among the top 50 richest cities in the world in 2024, ranking 24th and 37th, respectively. Mumbai has also emerged as the “billionaire capital of Asia,” surpassing Beijing, and is now the third-richest city globally, as reported by Hurun.
In 2024, the collective wealth of India’s top 100 billionaires soared by over $300 billion, totaling $1.1 trillion, largely due to a booming stock market. As we enter 2025, Forbes has unveiled the rankings of the richest Indians, highlighting the immense wealth of these individuals and their substantial contributions to various sectors.
Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Industries, remains the richest Indian, ranked 18th globally. Reliance Industries, which spans multiple industries including petrochemicals, oil and gas, retail, and telecom, was the largest and most profitable company in India in 2024, in terms of revenue.
In a notable mention, Savitri Jindal and her family, is the only Indian woman billionaire, who has been ranked as the wealthiest woman in India with a net worth of $38.5 billion. Their wealth primarily comes from the O.P. Jindal Group, a leading player in the steel and power sectors.
Radhakishan Damani, the founder of DMart, has also seen a significant rise in his fortune, with a net worth of $31.5 billion. DMart’s impressive 44 per cent growth and valuation of Rs 3.4 lakh crore have solidified Damani’s position as one of India’s richest self-made entrepreneurs in 2024.
