Zubeen Garg dies in Singapore: ‘Ya Ali’ singer Zubeen Garg drowned in Singapore on September 19 ahead of his concert at the North East Festival. The renowned singer and cultural icon was not only remembered as a stage artist but also held several philanthropic investments. His wife, Garima Saikia Garg, confirming the incident, recalled that he had suffered seizure attacks on several occasions in the past. She not only bashed the claims of his demise during scuba diving, but she also revealed that drummer Shekhar and Sidhartha were present on the yacht.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has shared that Zubeen took off his life jacket before going in for a swim, the second time. At this moment, Saikia revealed that he suffered a seizure and drowned. The 52-year-old singer breathed his last at the Singapore General Hospital ICU at 2:30 PM (local time).

Symptoms of seizures: Neurosurgeon explains

Dr Aditya Gupta, Director, Neurosurgery & Cyberknife at the Artemis Hospital, told financialexpress.com that some symptoms of seizures include “sudden stiffening or jerking of body parts, lost awareness, confusion, staring spells, abnormal sensations like tingling, loss of bladder control, or loss of consciousness. Afterward, an individual may feel tired, confused, or have a headache.”

While there has been no confirmation on the kind of seizure Garg had, his wife reported a previous occurrence of the same. The neurosurgery expert elaborated that the kind of seizure can be determined by the behaviour displayed just before or during the event. Dr Gupta told financialexpress.com that gathering information about “medical history, and possible triggers, and use testing such as EEG and brain imaging” is a common practice to determine the kind of seizure experienced.

Assam CM on Zubeen Garg

CM Sarma, who was campaigning in Chirang for Bodolang, rushed to Guwahati to bring back Garg’s remains. Announcing that they will be kept in the Sarusajai Stadium for the people to pay their last respects, his funeral is yet to be announced. Since an enquiry is underway, Himanta urged for proper diplomatic handling of the situation.

As per the CM, Garg was accompanied by the crew of his show, and more than 10 people were present on the yacht. Recovering his floating body, they performed CPR at the port and rushed him to the hospital. However, as revealed by Garg’s wife, the musician-artist remained in the ICU for two hours.
